Destinations on the island of Hvar

Hvar is the biggest and the most important town on the island of Hvar - centre of the island's tourism. It is a town of a unique cultural and historical heritage but also an important tourist resort with a centuries-old tradition in tourism (the first hotel, Empress Elisabeth, was opened in 1903.). Main attractions are pleasant climate, a lot of sunshine, natural beauties, various accommodation facilities, gastronomic offer, etc. |

Sucuraj is a small tourist and fishing town and harbour on the east cape of the island (just 5km far away from the mainland). Very mild climate and beautiful countryside are typical for Sucuraj; it is surrounded by the sea from 3 sides and it has many beautiful beaches and bays. Sucuraj exists more than 2300 years - the first known inhabitants of Sucuraj were the Illyrians; their queen Teuta had a home here in 3rd century BC. |

Stari Grad (ancient Pharos) is a town and harbour on the north-western part of the island of Hvar. It is the town of the oldest human settlement on the island, and one of the first of all the Adriatic islands. Chief occupations include farming, viniculture, olive growing, fruit growing, grapes processing, fishing and tourism. The “summer months” offer numerous cultural events and attracts many swimmers on the Pharos Marathon. |

Jelsa is a small town and port situated in the central part and on the northern coast of the island of Hvar. It is an important tourist centre which has a rich tradition in tourism. Occasional cultural and entertainment programs are organized in the summer months. The first habitation grew around the small church of St. John, which was in the 17th century reconstructed and converted into a Baroque-style structure. |

Vrboska is a small town and harbour which lies in a narrow and deeply indented bay on the central part of the northern coast of the island of Hvar, surrounded by vineyards, olive groves and a forest of pine. Chief occupations are farming, viniculture, olive growing, fishing, fish processing and tourism. The fortified church, which offers a wonderful view on the surroundings and the open sea, represents a unique monument. |

Other places on the coast of the island of Hvar are Milna, Sveta Nedilja, Ivan Dolac and Zavala. Other places which aren’t on the coast are: Brusje, Grablje, Selca kod Starog Grada, Dol, Rudina, Vrbanj, Svirce, Vrisnik, Pitve, Humac, Poljica, Zastrazisce, Gdinj, Bogomolje and Selca kod Bogomolja (but most of these places have coast with beautiful bays). |
